Abstract – THE DEFINITION AND ETIOLOGY OF PCOS THE DEFINITION AND ETIOLOGY OF PCOS

PCOS is a disorder of unknown etiology with a highly disputed pathogenesis. It was consented during the 2003 Rotterdam consensuns wokshop that PCOS should be defined as a syndrome of chronic anovulation, features of hyperandrogenism and an altered PCO-like morphology. Hyperinsulinism and peripheral insulin resistance are also common features of this syndrome with a documented role in pathogenesis.
