According to the presented program at the Society Congress in Iasi we want to develop and enrich the medical scientific and educational activity in our domain. One of the ways to achieve this goal is to encourage the research and dissemination activity of our members.

Until now, this activity has been carried out by the independent efforts of some people, but it has become very difficult, especially in recent years, related to the financing of the publications, lack of high quality communications and, above all, the need for Journal indexation in international databases.

By analyzing the existing publications, their tradition and their current indexation, we believe that we can carry on and develop the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Journal has a special tradition and we have identified the necessary resources for future development and financing.

The publisher of the Ginecologia.Ro Journal was contacted and a collaboration that allows us to edit both journals was discussed, involving the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Ginecologia.Ro, a highly indexed and well developed journal. „Taking over” Ginecologia. Ro under the leadership of SOGR does not involve any extra cost, and we believe that this is a „win-win” situation for both the publisher and SOGR.

We believe that by involving the members of the Directors Committee, Editorial staff, members of the Academic Committee, leaders and medical school trainers, and all Society members, we can have two journals that represent and promote our activity and have real chances to develop, and become PubMed and ISI indexed.

The publisher has the due to edit and publish the Obstetrics and Gynecology Journal in special digital graphics and to provide the journal for all Society paying members and a printed format with a quarterly appearance that will be requested and paid. The advantage is that the publisher will perform the entire editing, page-linking, linking of the electronic form to the Society site and will supplement the publishing costs by attracting sponsors from the pharmaceutical and medical industry.

Subscription fees for both journals will be included in the SOGR membership fee which will have the following values:

Physician:

Membership fee with 2 printed journals

Membership fee with 2 digital journals

340 RON

320 RON

Resident:

Membership fee with 2 printed journals

Membership fee with 2 digital journals

240 RON

190 RON

These figures imply a membership fee of 170 RON for physicians and 70 RON for residents, the rest being allocated for journal digital or printed subscription. We believe that these taxes are not a problem for any physician or resident at the current salaries.

We consider that this approach will bring the following benefits to the Society members:

  • The journal’s cost is completed by the publisher’s own sponsorship activity;·
  • The Society members who have paid their tax will have access to valuable articles useful for the medical practice;·
  • Physicians that have to publish articles for university development will have access to two valuable journals. Even though the ISI publication criteria are most difficult to achieve, academic publishing criteria also include published articles in databases, or Pubmed indexed journals;·
  • The Society members who have paid their fee will be able to participate with low fees at the Congresses and Conferences of SOGR and other Societies (SRUOG, ARMP, Ian Donald Romania, Urogynecology, SRMR);
  • Every year, the SOGR members who have paid their fees will receive 10 EMC credits (5 credits automatically for each journal).

We consider that this project will develop the Society journals. However, collaboration between all university centers will be necessary in order to attract young colleagues willing to get involved in the editorial staffs as well as articles contribution for all SOGR members.

If we have enough Society members – at least 200 each year, along with the publisher’s contribution, the financial support of the journal will be resolved, but still, we must constantly contribute with articles, not only during university promotions. When the journals will be PubMed or ISI indexed their attractiveness will greatly increase and most problems will disappear. But until then, we need an efficient collaboration between us.
